Her ancestry is Carrier/Ukrainian (Beaver clan). Happily married for the last 12 years and blessed with a beautiful 9-year old daughter. Dawn’s experience consists of 10 years working within the children and family sector as she has a strong compassion for children, family and community-well being. It is her hope to assist those upcoming generations to change the cycle of abuse, neglect and social injustice. “What I bring to this position is my commitment to carry out the Kikino mandate and wishes of the Board of Directors and to ensure that children and families that require support are getting the help so that they can raise strong, healthy, successful families by understanding their strengths, values and traditional teachings”! Family Support Worker/ Facilitator

Sheryl Elgie came on board working with Kikino Métis Children and Family as the April 01, 2009 for the Circle of Life Program and Spirit of the Grandmothers Program. She is a Cree woman from the Fort McKay Nation in Alberta. Before coming on board with Kikino, Sheryl worked in various roles as a 3rd Party Outreach Worker assisting people struggling with mental, social and physical disabilities. While in that role she took the initiative and sat on the planning committee to develop the Prince George Outreach Network, in order to connect service providers to get everyone working together for the people! As a lifeskills worker, she assists clients in connecting them with community resources; BC Schizophrenic Society, Brain Injured Group, Canadian Mental Health, Northern Health, Detox, Baldy Hughes and many more to equip her client with coping mechanisms for varying needs; addictions, mental illness, social disfunctions and criminal records previously with Ketso Yoh, then the Friendship Lodge and Nutesne Yoh. As a single mother of two, the importance of child welfare issues has always been prevalent in her career goals as shown in her work with Northern Aboriginal Authorities for Families. This is also shown in her volunteer work with the Aboriginal Headstart Program as a child minder as well as Conference Coordinator for Northern Aboriginal Early Childhood Development Conference in April 2008.

Office Assistant

We also welcome Jolene Giroux to the Kikino team as of January 2010. Jolene brings with her a great deal of energy and excitement to be a member of our staff. She has been married to a wonderful husband for 11 years we have 3 children. Jolene has been associated with Prince George Aboriginal Head Start for a number of years being a prominent number of the Parental Advisory Committee while all her children attended. Recently as of last year her youngest child attended Head Start as well as Strong Start which lead her to doing presentations with the newest ECE teacher of Strong Start accompanying the Coordinator to various areas of the community. This is what brought her to Kikino and this position. She has also had the opportunity to be on the Development Team for the Aboriginal Choice School. Our team put forward the recommendations for the new School and very proud of the work we put into it. Jolene has the firm belief in children and hard work.
